FBI Fingerprinting in Paris — Identity History Summary (FD-1164)
Sequana provides ink fingerprinting on the FBI FD-1164 card for people in France who need their own FBI Identity History Summary — the official FBI background check often required for a visa, immigration, residency, naturalization, or adoption abroad. (Looking for the FD-258? See which form you actually need below.)
What we do
We take rolled and flat ink impressions of all ten fingers on the FBI FD-1164 card — in two copies — and fill in and sign the form with you during the appointment. We check every impression for smudges and partials before you leave, so a rejected card doesn’t cost you weeks on an FBI deadline. Most appointments take about 30 minutes.
FBI Identity History Summary (the background check)
The FBI Identity History Summary (informally "rap sheet") is the official record of arrests and federal employment, military service, or naturalization information held by the FBI. Individuals can request their own.(Source: fbi.gov ↗)
The FD-1164 fingerprint card
The FD-1164 is the FBI's "Identity History Summary Request" form — the fingerprint card used when you request your own FBI Identity History Summary (background check). It carries rolled and flat ink impressions of all ten fingers plus your identifying information.(Source: fbi.gov ↗)
Ink fingerprinting vs. live-scan
Two capture methods exist: ink-and-roll on a card (the FD-1164 for an Identity History Summary) and live-scan (electronic). Live-scan is faster and lower-rejection but is not available everywhere; from outside the US, ink-and-roll on the card is the standard route.(Source: fbi.gov)
FD-258 or FD-1164 — which form do I need?
For an FBI Identity History Summary — your own FBI background check — the form is the FD-1164 (“Identity History Summary Request”). This is what Sequana provides. FD-1164 (fbi.gov) ↗
The FD-258 (“Applicant Fingerprint Form”) is a different card, used for US employment, licensing, and criminal-justice background checks that an employer or agency submits on your behalf. FD-258 (fbi.gov) ↗
If you’re requesting your own FBI record, you need the FD-1164 — not the FD-258. Not sure which applies to you? Just ask us.
Where your prints get submitted
Your finished FD-1164 card is submitted to the FBI for your Identity History Summary — either mailed to the FBI directly, or through an FBI-approved Channeler for a faster turnaround:

Applicants can submit directly to the FBI or via an FBI-approved Channeler.
FBI publishes 3–5 business days for electronic submissions; mailed paper requests take longer.
Use a Channeler when faster turnaround or live-scan-equivalent service is required from outside the US.
Channelers typically return results faster than direct mail-in requests; exact timing varies by Channeler.
The U.S. Embassy in Paris does not provide fingerprinting services to the public; applicants must use a private provider or Channeler.
What to bring
Bring your passport and the email from the FBI containing your QR code (from your Identity History Summary request) — we include it with the documents sent. In the 24 hours before your appointment, avoid hand lotion, moisturizer, and hand sanitizer, and anything that wears down your fingertips.
Where we operate
In-office in Paris is the default. Travel within a 2-hour train radius around Paris is available when the fee warrants it. At-home visits are available for elderly or mobility-limited clients.
